My success in the classroom was achieved by surrounding children with music, art, movement, pro essays literature, drama and conversation. My greatest advice is that children learn best through hands-on learning and by discovering from each other not from a piece of paper. It is my belief that no primary teacher had any part in writing the common core standards for the lower grades. I am very familiar with the Common Core and the expectations are the same that we had for third graders when I first started teaching. You cannot teach a two year old to tie his shoes. It is not developmentally appropriate.
